Mickfield, Suffolk
Period and contemporary bathrooms, specified properly
Sanitaryware, brassware, furniture and accessories for houses that deserve more than a catalogue suite, sold from our showroom in mid Suffolk and delivered across the country.
Bathurst & Co sells two families of bathroom. The period collections are drawn from the bathrooms of the early twentieth century and the grand hotels of the 1920s and 1930s: basins on ceramic pedestals and metal washstands, high- and low-level cisterns with exposed flush pipes, roll-top baths and brassware in chrome, gold and bronze. The contemporary collections cover wall-hung and back-to-wall WCs, vessel and semi-recessed basins, freestanding baths and a gallery range of sculptural pieces, many of them made in matt and coloured glazes. The ceramics are made in Italy.
Each collection runs from basin to WC to the cisterns, wastes, traps and flush pipes that join them, so a room can be specified from one source and arrive complete. Our design service draws the room, checks pipe runs, waste falls and wall construction, and produces a schedule of every item before anything is ordered. The showroom shares a site with our joinery workshop, which makes vanity units, cabinets and panelling to fit the room. Private clients, architects, interior designers and builders all buy from us, and trade accounts are available.

Period
For houses with a history
The period collections suit Victorian, Edwardian and inter-war houses, and newer houses built in those manners. Cisterns can be mounted high or low with exposed pipework, basins stand on ceramic pedestals or metal washstands, and the brassware is made in finishes that sit well with old timber and stone.
- Framsden: early twentieth-century basins, pedestals, cisterns and a roll-top bath
- Thornham: grand-hotel proportions, basins up to a 150cm double, metal washstands
- Debenham: 1920s and 1930s basins, a freestanding basin and a high-level suite
- Cretingham: three sculpted basins for a cloakroom or dressing room
- Kersey: baths in oval, round, square and rectangular plans
- Kettleburgh: ceramic kitchen, pantry and utility sinks

Contemporary
For rooms built now
The contemporary collections are designed around concealed frames, wall-hung furniture and vessel basins, which keep floors clear and let a small room feel larger. Many pieces are made in matt glazes, from black and grey to green, hazel and burgundy, with white or easy-clean glazes where a room needs them.
- Orwell: the complete suite, from basins and WCs to taps, furniture and accessories
- Stour: squared edges, vessel and semi-inset basins, three WC types
- Deben: the widest choice of WC and bidet sizes
- Alde: basins from a 35cm round to a 140cm double, brass and steel washstands
- Waveney: freestanding basins, sculptures, tables and lamps
- Ore, Dove, Linnet and Brett: vessel basins in gloss and matt glazes

Design service
Drawn before it is ordered
Most bathroom problems are decided before the first tile goes on: a waste that cannot fall far enough, a concealed frame in a wall too shallow to take it, a bath that will not turn the corner on the stairs. We survey the room, draw it, and check each of those points against the pieces you want.
You receive a measured layout and a schedule of every item, down to the traps and flush pipes, so your builder can first-fix to the right positions and nothing is missing on the day. We can supply only, or supply and fit with our own fitters.

Our workshop
Furniture made to fit the room
Next to the showroom at Mickfield is our own joinery workshop. It makes vanity units, washstand cabinets, panelling, boxing for concealed cisterns and storage for linen, drawn for the room and finished to match the rest of the house.
Because the furniture and the ceramics come from the same place, the basin cut-out, the tap holes and the waste position are worked out once, on one drawing.
